Country Reviews: Fishing in Banda Aceh

One of my favourite hobbies is fishing. Indulging in the fishermen's shop seeing what kind of baits they have , from live baits to plastic baits and the different kind of unique rods they possess; all aspects which I enjoy thoroughly. Being able to relax under the sun and be near the sea is also very nice, while time whittle away. Today, this article will tell you more about Fishing in Banda Aceh, located in Indonesia.
Fishing in Banda Aceh has become a big pastime and livelihood for many of the people there and more tourists are flocking to Banda Aceh to fish.



Banda Aceh is located at the tip of Sumatra and you reach Banda Aceh by air, through the Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport, or Banda Aceh International Airport. One thing to note is that most major worldwide airlines do not fly to Banda Aceh, like United Airlines, Singapore Airlines or Japan Airlines. Only 8 airlines fly to the Banda Aceh Airport and 4 of them are based domestically only. Thus, to get to Banda Aceh, you will have to take one of these eight airlines, namely:

1. AirAsia (From Kuala Lumpur, KLIA)
2. Batavia Air (From Saudi Arabia, KAIA)
3. FireFly (From Penang, PIA)
4. Garuda Indonesia (From Jarkata, Soetta, Medan, Polonia International Airport)
5. Garuda Indonesia (From Saudi Arabia, KAIA)
6. Lion Air (From Jarkata, Soetta, Medan, Polonia International Airport & Bandung, Husein Sastranegara International Airport)
7. Nusantara Buana Air (From Blang Pidie, Kutacane, Meulaboh, Simeulue, Singkil, Takengon, Tapaktuan)
8. Sriwijaya Air (From  Jarkata, Soetta, Medan, Polonia International Airport)

I will be talking about taking the KLIA route to Banda Aceh where I will board from the Budget Terminal in KLIA to the Banda Aceh International Airport. From the city area of Kuala Lumpur to the KLIA will take some time of around 1 to 2 hours, depending on the dire traffic situation in Kuala Lumpur. You must direct the driver to take you to the Budget Terminal and not the main terminals if you are boarding from there as the driver will normally assume you are going to the main terminals.

The direct flight from KLIA to the Banda Aceh Airport will take about 45 minutes and it is best for you to bring along some refreshments like sweets and water as it will be costly to buy from the air plane's stewardess itself. It is also the cheapest mean to reach Banda Aceh through plane with Air Asia from the KLIA. There will be more than 30 flights out of KLIA and into the Banda Aceh International Airport per week so you will not need to worry about it.

After reaching the Banda Aceh International Airport, you will then need to clear the immigrations & customs before entering. This procedure will take up a long time so be sure to be patient and wait until your turn is up.  The people entering Banda Aceh is incredulous and you will need to go with the hustle as there are some who will try to cut the queue. It will be also very hot in Banda Aceh as the place is near the equator; where it will hot all year round.However, if you are an elderly or someone with a baby, the immigration officers at Banda Aceh will be very kind to allow you passage first and they will extend a hand to help.
