Country Reviews: Singapore, the sunny tropical island of fun Part II

Country Review’s Delicious Foods to Try in Singapore

Country Review’s First on the list: The Chili Crab

Food at home not spicy enough for you? The Chili Crab combines a savory sweetness with a hint of spiciness, meaning that the Chili Crab would absorb the smell and taste of the 2 great flavors together. The Chili Crab is placed into a big plate where the sauce surrounds the succulent crab. The sweet and spicy sauce is used by restaurants for a side dish. The fried buns (or mantou, as the Chinese says it) would be used to scoop up the remaining sauce to indulge in.

Country Reviews’ Second on the list: The Satay

If you are a fan of skewered meats, then you are in luck. Singapore sells a unique local brand of skewered meat, where the meats (beef, chicken, mutton) are place precariously on a wooden stick and be cooked on a charcoal stove. You can then dip the bumptious satay into the stall’s own spicy peanut sauce. If you are still hungry, then try the Satays with the ketupats (rice cakes). The aromatic smell of the Satay would certainly attract the envy of your peers.

Country Reviews’ Third on the list: Durians

In Country Reviews, we delight in delicious foods. However, this last one is quite akin of a misnomer. Durians, a strange fruit, is armed to the tooth with green spikes on the outside but is filled with aromatic yellow meats on the inside. When Country Reviews believe it is aromatic, trust me, it is either pungent or tasty. There are some who dislike the strong taste of the durian, others adored it a lot. So if you are not afraid of a gamble, then try the durian. However, be warned that you cannot bring durians into the trains in Singapore; they are banned for the strong smell that they possess.

Country Review’s Hotels which are great in Singapore

Country Review’s First on the list: Marina Bay Sands

The Marina Bay Sands is an integrated resort, equipped with thousands of hotel rooms and other amenities. It is a certified five star hotel and the service in the hotel is fast and prompt. If you are bored, Marina Bay Sands also hosts The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands; there are theatres, celebrity restaurants, ice skating rinks and the world’s largest atrium casino. In Marina Bay Sands, you would never be bored or be able to discover the whole resort in just a day.

Country Review’s Second on the list: Pan Pacific Singapore

The Pan Pacific Singapore is located in the strategic heart of Singapore’s shopping and business sector. Nearby would be the Suntec City and Convention Halls, where it hosts various expo sales and talks and seminars. If the shopaholic in you is dying to get out, various other shopping centers like the Millennia Walk and Marina Square. The Pan Pacific Singapore also offers tons of dining experience with the food there impeccable and the room service fast and speedy. Country Review’s Third on the list: Raffles Hotel Singapore

Named after the great Sir Stamford Raffles who founded modern Singapore, the Raffles Hotel Singapore promises much in terms of quality of service and locality. The Raffles Hotel is a great 5 star hotel, with plenty of shopping centers surrounding it. If you indulge in alcoholic drink or just want to try the country’s local cocktail, then perhaps you might be interested in the Singapore Sling, developed by a Bartender working in the Raffles Hotel Singapore. The recipe in Raffles Hotel is original and the other ones outside of it are not so authentic. There are also 14 restaurants residing in Raffles Hotel Singapore, with the Bar and Billiard Room being one of my favorite haunts whenever I visit Singapore.
